It All Starts with Lance Allan Wyndon

Lance Allan Wyndon was born in Houston, Texas, on August 16, 1960. He attended Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU) and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering in 1982.

Throughout his 38-year career in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, and Design Engineering, his passion for inspiring, teaching, mentoring, and supporting future African American and minority Engineers grew. He found many opportunities to give back to his community and alma mater. Most recently, while working at Lockheed Martin in Palmdale, CA, he served as the President of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), NSBE Antelope Valley Chapter where he mentored, and tutored high school STEM students.

Lance was a multi-faceted engineer, and his work on noteworthy projects was recognized through multiple awards and publications. In 2017, he was awarded a U.S. Patent for an"anti-rotation lug for mounting components together" while working on electronic packing for Engine Build-Up (EBU) components and assembly.

He was proud to have lent his talents to aerospace companies such as Boeing, Northrup Grumman, and NASA by making significant contributions to honored assignments such as the Cassini Subsystems Spacecraft, B2 Bomber controls, and hydraulics system, the Galaxy C3, and Spaceway, Electronic warfare systems for the U.S. Naval Sea Systems Command, the Avionics Systems on the Low Boom Flight Demonstrator, the X-59 Quest Program, and products/services for the International Space Station and Space Shuttle spacecraft flight programs.

On June 23, 2020, the world lost a brilliant engineer and a kind and gentle soul as Lance passed away from a rare brain cancer. His legacy lives on through the Lance A. Wyndon Engineering  Foundation (LAWEF), initially established by his wife, Maria Lewis Wyndon, to increase the graduation rate of African American engineering students at historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) nationwide.

Lance was a founding member of Sigmar Gamma Rhomeo, now The Fraternal Order of Classy Gentlemen (FOCG): Sigma Rhomeo Inc. at PVAMU.  FOCG: Sigma Rhomeo and the LAWEF have joined efforts to provide ongoing minority student scholarships focusing on one-on-one tutoring and mentoring for qualifying students. The Rhomeo-LAW Engineering Scholarship Foundation (LAWEF) will be a life-changing, difference-making platform to establish more African American engineers and ensure they have the tools to succeed in future STEM careers.
